Here are the awards made by the grants committee at their meeting in September 2021.
The Communities Looking Forward grants programme was introduced earlier in the year to focus on helping local sports clubs, community groups and charities heal from the pandemic. The funding stream offers groups up to £15,000 (unless there are exceptional circumstances) and works collaboratively with recipients.
During 2021 Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation has awarded £89,798 in grants to local charities and community groups, including this latest round agreed upon in September and distributed throughout November 2021:
-
£4,000 awarded to Herts Disability Sports Foundation for their ‘Bikes without Barriers’ project. This project will provide Learn to Ride training for pupils in Letchworth schools. The project will involve ensuring the roadworthiness of children’s bikes and providing a suitable reconditioned bike for those who do not have their own bike.
-
Letchworth Music Club reached out for £825 to support the costs involved in hosting a season of classical music at the Friends Meeting House.
-
The Salvation Army were given £4,719 to install a large LCD screen in their community hall. The screen will be used for teaching, supporting community activities, projecting text for those with sight problems and other community uses.
