In common with many millions of people here in the UK and around the world, I and my colleagues at the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, were deeply shocked to learn of the violent death of Member of Parliament, Sir David Amess, at his constituency surgery on Friday.
He was, by all accounts, much admired and respected by so many in his community, of all political persuasions, and to have lost his life whilst fulfilling his commitment to them simply beggars belief. It will also be a hugely painful blow to all of his colleagues in the House, but most especially to his wife and family, for whom I feel great sorrow.
We send our sympathy and warmest thoughts to all who knew him at this truly dreadful time.
