AV & Cinema Technician

Summary

Our iconic facility opened its doors in 1936 with the theatre added in 2016. 

The AV & Cinema Technician assists in the preparation of facilities and the delivery of technical services for performances within the Broadway Cinema and Theatre and other such Foundation venues.  They ensure the smooth running of all screenings at the Venue.

Digital projection is an integral element to the overall success of the Broadway Cinema and part of the Technician’s responsibility is to manage the weekly programming and scheduling of the film titles, liaising with our Digital projection contractor on the required support levels.  

Role
  • Technical presentation of films, monitoring sound levels and picture quality on a weekly basis
  • Ensure the necessary support / coordinating for Event Cinema through Satellite management.
  • Working closely with Broadway Managers on the weekly film programmes and the upkeep of the Digital Projection. 
  • Maintain all digital equipment to provide quality film presentation in conjunction with the projection maintenance contractor and to take any preventative steps to remedy possible breakdown following the training guidelines that have been supplied.
  • Ensure that the trailers and advertisements sets are changed as per training guidelines with digital equipment ensuring that only those trailers which are for confirmed future films are included, with no disruption to film programming in line with our Advertising contractor and Theatre Management system.
  • Ensure the weekly activities are carried out to present films on time and with minimum disruption / down time, as directed by the weekly/daily film schedule with the full understanding of the Box office software.
  • Receive and prepare incoming films, whether by satellite or courier, and to ensure the dispatch of outgoing films in accordance with contractual obligations and company policies and procedures.
  • Operate the cinemas system for receiving live broadcasts.
  • The AV & Cinema technician will set up and operate sound and projections systems for conferencing and events at other foundation venues if required.
  • Actively encourage new ideas and teamwork in order to promote our customer experience and expect our staff to work closely with management to contribute a voice to such discussions.
  • The AV & Cinema technician will work alongside the Managers and cover technical duties when necessary.
  • They will be expected to work evenings and weekends when required.
  • They must be flexible, a good communicator and with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Perform minor repairs in line with relevant training or notify maintenance Digital contractors of the need for major repairs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix problems under pressure.  
  • Ability to handle and project from a wide array of digital formats (Blu-ray, PowerPoint presentations etc.
Skills and experience

EXPERIENCE & TRACK RECORD

  •  The experience of the general care and maintenance of technical equipment
  • The ability to work at height, and experience with the use of access equipment
  •  The knowledge of how to approach heavy lifting and loading/unloading of equipment in a safe manner

 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability and willingness to communicate proactively and positively with colleagues and members of the pubic
  • General health and safety knowledge
  • Understanding of manual handling principles
  • Holds/is capable of achieving a First Aid at Work Certificate 


ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS  

  • Willingness and ability to work outside of normal office hours on occasion.
  • Willingness to work flexibly in response to changing organisational requirements
