The popular Letchworth Festival event has been missed by audiences, performers and Letchworth residents in recent years as, like the majority of the cultural sector, the pandemic has curtailed and cancelled planned activities.
The proposed festival will take place throughout the town in June 2022, kicking off with activities for the late May school half term, and events and activities to tie in with the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen. Events being planned so far include a wider range of the creative arts than ever before – ranging from art, theatre and literature through to gaming and the spoken word.
The festival team are working with the Letchworth Culture Committee to ensure that feedback from their current survey on the cultural strategy is included, and that the festival represents the Cultural Letchworth that our audiences, practitioners and residents want to see. To that end, the festival team are looking to bring new faces to the organisation committee. There are a range of roles, from event management and marketing, through to cultural leads on the different activity threads, and work on fundraising and finance. Do you think you could be involved?
The chair of the Festival, Hilary Kemp said: “We’re so excited to be reimagining, growing and relaunching the Letchworth Festival. Now is the time for us to celebrate all that is wonderful in our culturally rich and diverse town, and this festival will do just that. We need the support of the community, so if you think you’d like to be involved, please email me directly on hilskemp@gmail.com and we can have a chat, or visit the website.
As with everything in the current climate, the festival is being produced with robust contingencies in place so that, should the pandemic look to cause further issues, Plan B events can still take place in a different form.
