A one-man show celebrating the life of British comedian Norman Wisdom comes to Broadway Theatre next month.
The performance on 8 September follows Wisdom’s life as he dominates stage and screen throughout the 1950s, playing to packed audiences across the country.
In this acclaimed one-man play, writer and actor Jack Lane takes the audience behind the scenes of Wisdom’s well-known character to reveal a tough and lonely childhood.
Creative Programmer for the Broadway Theatre, Sue Scott Davison said: “Like many people, I remember the influence that Norman Wisdom had on our TV screens and it’s great that Jack Lane is able to bring to life the story of one of the 20th century’s great comedians on stage in Letchworth.”
After joining the army, Wisdom discovered that he had a passion for comedy and began to perfect an act that would go on to shape his unique style. The world of post-war Music Hall and Variety shows embraced his manic slapstick routine, which catapulted him to stardom in the early 1950s.
The show features 30 characters throughout this tour de force performance. Wisdom’s own ‘Gump’ costume has been generously loaned for the play by his son and daughter, Nicholas and Jacqueline Wisdom.
Tickets for the show are priced at £18 and are available to purchase at broadway-letchworth.com or you can call the theatre box office on 01462 681088.
