Broadway Gallery’s Letchworth Open is Hertfordshire’s largest open-submission exhibition, and has been uniting established, emerging and amateur artists from across Hertfordshire and its surroundings. Now in its third year, this remarkable showcase provides insight into one of the most artistic regions in the UK and offers a platform for diverse approaches to creativity, establishing the Broadway Gallery and Letchworth as the cultural epicentre of visual arts in Hertfordshire.
Paul Davey, Curator of Broadway Gallery said: “We are proud that every artist who submits into the Letchworth Open has opportunity to exhibit a single piece of their artwork, creating a monumental exhibition presenting the work from over 400 artists. Showcasing a wide variety of themes and disciplines that include painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and digital art. I have been absolutely blown away by the quality and quantity of applications this year – it’s made for a truly extraordinary exhibition.”
Each year the Letchworth Open supports three artists through the Open Bursaries. The bursaries are designed to provide artists the opportunity to develop a small body of work that will be exhibited in Broadway Gallery. Previous recipients (including Nigel Grimmer, Tabitha Wilson and Emma Phillips) are invited to carefully shortlist individual artworks, before the gallery team selects three artists who can demonstrate a commitment to their practice and show new and inventive approaches to making will be exhibited at Broadway Gallery in 2024.
Most of the artworks on display are available to buy, and sales from the Letchworth Open support both the exhibiting artists and Broadway Gallery’s exhibition, events and learning programme.
