Broadway Theatre audiences are in for a treat this spring as Dad’s Army Radio Hour plays 25 March as part of a limited UK tour.
This Edinburgh Fringe hit sees two actors play 25 characters in a brilliant staging of classic radio scripts, based on favourite episodes from the original BBC series. 2018 marks 50 years of Perry and Croft's quintessential sitcom, which won the 'Best One-Liner' accolade in a poll of comedians conducted earlier this year by Gold with the immortal words "Don't tell him, Pike".
The show is performed by David Benson (star of Think No Evil of Us: My Life With Kenneth Williams) and Jack Lane (Wisdom of a Fool) and uses three original radio scripts by Harold Snoad and Michael Knowles. The production is minimal: Benson and Lane, two microphones, and an “on air” light, needing no more than the talented duo to deliver 90 minutes of entertainment.
Beth Dawes, Marketing Manager at the Broadway Theatre, commented: “This production is a real treat for fans of Dad’s Army – indeed anyone who appreciates live theatre will enjoy it. It’s just the two actors, but don’t underestimate them. Their performances are so full of affection for the original show. All the much-loved characters and catchphrases from the TV show are there - but it’s much more than just impersonation."
Dad’s Army Radio Hour, 25 March at 7pm. Tickets £18 with concessions £16. For more information visit www.broadway-letchworth.com or call the box office on 01462 681088.
