Broadway Gallery has launched a photography competition to capture the best images of Letchworth Garden City’s native plants, flowers and trees.
The competition is inspired by the Gallery’s latest exhibition by German photographer and sculptor, Karl Blossfeldt, featuring a series of close-up images of plants and flora.
Now Letchworth residents are being asked to capture their own botanical images of Letchworth, with the best images being displayed as part of a slideshow at the Gallery, updated throughout the course of the exhibition.
Laura Dennis, Curator at the Broadway Gallery said: “Karl Blossfeldt’s photography shows us the incredible beauty that can be found in plants, including those of the common or garden variety. As the Garden City comes into bloom this summer, we felt it was an ideal opportunity to invite local people to share their images of flora and fauna in the town, to highlight the botanical beauty that surrounds us.”
Karl Blossfeldt: Art Forms in Nature is a Hayward Touring exhibition, which presents an original portfolio of 40 photogravures from 1932, entitled Wundergarten der Natur, edited by the artist and published in the year of his death.
Entrants can post up to five photos on Instagram using the hashtag #BotanicalGardenCity or by tagging either @letchworthgardeningcity or @broadwaylgc.
Entries can also be sent via email to broadway@letchworth.com and must include a name, contact email or telephone number, the date the image was taken and the name and location of what has been photographed (e.g. Honeysuckle, Wilbury Road). Images must have been taken in Letchworth within the last 12 months.
The competition closes at 10am on Thursday 31 August and images will be displayed until 10 September when the exhibition closes. For full terms and conditions and to find out more about the exhibition, visit www.broadway-letchworth.com/studio-gallery
