The Grants Committee met earlier this month to discuss applications under the Be the Best programme. Under the programme, awards of up to £500 are given to groups or individuals to help develop their talents and skills. This month, grants were awarded to three talented local residents and to a group project by Garden City Chorus. The other Be the Best awards were:
- Callum Mullins, awarded £450 towards football training and equipment costs
- Lauren Court, awarded £500 towards travel costs to Leicester to play football
- Madeline McConnell-Smith, awarded £500 towards a singing masterclass course
There were also awards under the Club Together programme, with grants given to 21 groups and organisations within the town. A highlight of these awards were grants given to Leonard Cheshire and Herts Musical Memories to run social classes for adults with disabilities and singing classes for dementia sufferers respectively.
