General Grants were on the agenda for the November meeting of our Grants committee. The General Grants programme offers sums of up to £25,000 to any not for profit local, regional or national charitable organisation whose activities support or enhance the lives of Letchworth residents. Nine grants were awarded under the programme totalling £67,080. These were:
- £1,500 to Garden City Eagles to assist with the purchase of portable goals for the club
- £10,000 to Garden House Hospice to support the provision of an ABC education post, which assists individuals, families and care workers with end of life care planning
- £10,290 to Groundwork East to assist with their ‘Wellies in the Wood’ outdoor education programme for under 5’s in partnership with the family centre
- £10,000 to Letchworth Arts and Leisure Group to fully upgrade their website to provide real time information and services to members
- £20,000 to Stevenage Against Domestic Abuse to help with the appointment of an advisor to provide assistance and advice to residents suffering low or medium levels of domestic abuse
- £3,500 to Small Acts of Kindness to set up an Ambassador programme aimed at working with local organisations to support lonely or isolated members of the local community
- £10,500 to Stevenage and North Herts Child Contact Centre to support the provision of their service in the local area enabling supervised contact between children and family members
- £790 to Letchworth Amateur Swimming Club to support their Youth Development Programme
- £500 to Young Enterprise to provide an employability skills workshop at the Highfield School for 140 pupils
This rounded up the awards of grants for this year to a total of £140,925 awarded to 75 different groups, organisations and individuals in Letchworth throughout 2018.
