The streets are full of twinkling lights and Santa’s starting to make a few appearances, it’s beginning to feel Christmassy already! The Garden City is going to be a busy place over the next few weeks and it all starts this Saturday with the ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’, including lots of fun for all the family from 12 noon. Pick up a full programme from shops around the town or from Love Letchworth.
Here are just some of the events and activities on over the Festive Season!
Letchworth Arcadians present ‘The Sound of Movies’ at The Icknield Centre 30November to 2December and you can get into ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ with the Garden City Singers’ concert featuring the Biddenham Handbell Ringers at the Free Church on 3December from 4pm. Plus Community Carols at Letchworth Garden City Church on 3December from 6.30pm-9pm.
Every Saturday Santa will be making visits to Garden Square so pop along to tell him how good you’ve been all year! There’ll also be a giant inflatable snow globe if you fancy a photo in the snow and Christmas activities and buskers in The Wynd.
The Community Museum opens in The Arcade with an Arts & Crafts Christmas’ exhibition and a shop full of lovely ideas for Christmas. Open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10am to 3pm from 1 December to 23 December.Historic displays, free children’s craft activities and fun selfie corner. Don’t miss a chance to help decorate their exhibition by making a Christmas bauble with a chance to win some great prizes! Pick up details from the Tourist Information Centre or the Exhibition.
At the Family Arts Studio , Broadway Gallery on Sunday 10 December you and your budding artists can create a Christmas door decoration and cards, then relax in the Café Bar with a piece of cake as reward. Admission is free with no booking required, and activities are open to all but primarily aimed at accompanied children aged 3+ and families.
Prepare for plentiful vintage festive fun at Broadway Theatre on the 6 December, as The Fitzrovia Radio Hour present their rip-roaring rendition of A Christmas Carol. The Dickens classic is reimagined as a live 1940’s-style studio recording – with spectacular sound effects created live, cut-glass accents, sharp suits and of course a good helping of spooky ghosts. It’s a unique alternative Christmas entertainment!
Keep the children amused while you are shopping by doing the Letchworth Christmas Trail and discover some unusual independent shops! Pick up a copy from participating shops or the Tourist Information Centre and return your completed form to Wilkinsons for your chance to win some Broadway Cinema & Theatre tickets. The trail runs from 25 November to 23 December.
Dear Santa on the 11 -13 December is a perfect Christmas treat for children aged 2 to 7 years old – and their parents too! We’ll see Santa trying to get little Sarah the perfect Christmas gift, with help from his elf and the audience of course! Everyone will get to meet Santa Claus himself who will be bringing presents for the audience too. At Broadway Theatre.
Imajica Theatre Company present a panto for the younger audience, Genie Jelly Belly and the 3 Wishes, performances on 15 and 16 December at St Christopher School.
Carols in The Arcade with City Chorus on 16 December 11am – 12.30pm and The Garden City Band on 23 December 11am -12pm.
See the truly Magical Snow Lion from the Forest of Eternal Snow in Garden Square on 9 December. Performances are at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
You can meet Santa’s reindeer in Leys Square on 23 December between10am and 4pm as they prepare for their round the world trip on Christmas Eve!
