ABOUT THE GALLERY

Broadway Gallery is situated in the Arcade, Letchworth’s beautiful and historic grade II listed shopping centre. With a range of unique spaces for any occasion, the Broadway Gallery can offer a stunning location no matter the event.

The Broadway Gallery is a leading visual arts venue in Hertfordshire, known for its amazing exhibitions and learning programmes that inspire our community. It is a place to see fantastic art, get creative, and socialise in our vibrant Garden City Arts Club.

Hiring our spaces is a crucial source of raising income that directly supports our artistic and learning programmes – and will help ensure everyone has access to Arts, Culture and Heritage in our town.

Charitable Discounts

We support several charities with free studio space as an alternative to charitable discounts. To be considered for free charitable space usage your activities must:

  • Directly benefit the community
  • Be accessible and inclusive to all members of the community, and prioritise those in greatest need
  • Ensure that a sustainable approach is taken, and no long-term commitment is entered.

If you would like to apply for free space usage, please contact the Gallery directly to arrange a visit and meet the team. The senior leadership team will review your proposal, and a decision may take up to 8 weeks.

The Broadway Gallery offers an exceptional venue for your next event. This vibrant, elegant space is perfect for hosting conferences, intimate dinners, or drinks receptions, all set against a backdrop of stunning artwork by nationally renowned artists.

When not showcasing one of our rotating exhibitions, the Gallery transforms into a flexible, customisable event space tailored to your needs. Included with the hire is access to our welcoming social area, featuring large windows that flood the space with natural light, high ceilings, and a convenient kitchenette.

Please note that availability depends on our exhibition schedule, which changes approximately every eight weeks.

GARDEN CITY ARTS CLUB

The Garden City Arts Club is the heart of Broadway Gallery—a warm and inviting space that regularly welcomes visitors and serves as a hub for community interest groups.

On Tuesdays, this versatile space is available for hire, making it ideal for meetings, workshops, or team away days. With step-free access and a convenient location adjacent to the kitchenette, it offers both comfort and practicality.

Please note: The Garden City Arts Club is only available for full-day hire on Tuesdays.

LARGE STUDIO

A large space for creativity, our studio regularly hosts our workshops, classes, and Family Arts Session. It is the perfect location for afterschool clubs, art classes, music and theatre groups, yoga classes, and even small events. The Studio can be hired by the hour during our regular opening hours or out of hours for an additional charge.

SMALL STUDIO

Situated on the top floor of the building, our Small Studio is a flexible meeting room that is perfect for training, meetings and presentations. The room offers step-free access to our Garden City Arts Club space and toilets and is equipped with a TV, flip chart and can either be a board room or a small seminar room. This Space can be hired by the hour during our regular business hours, or out of hours for an additional charge.

COMBINED STUDIO HIRE & CHILDREN'S BIRTHDAY PARTY

Our Studios directly adjoin each other and can be hired in together. This work well for Children’s Birthday Parties, Performances, and other events where you need a breakout space, additional storage or a changing area.

FAQs

Are your spaces fully accessible?

Our venue is fully accessible to wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments

Do you have parking?

Unfortunately, there is no onsite parking. Please use the Wynd Car Park located here. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/VGARc66E79WFqKmZ7)

Do you have a loading bay?

We have a small loading bay located here (https://maps.app.goo.gl/WFKBX2bFeFUdJFxv7) 

When is my booking confirmed?

Your booking will only be confirmed once the hire agreement has been signed and returned to you and the deposit has been paid. We strongly encourage you to pay the deposit at the time of booking.

Do you have catering?

The hire is for the venue only and we do not offer catering. Hirers will have access to a small kitchenette including a hot water maker, fridge and dishwasher. Please see the additional charges for Tea & Coffee options. 

Can I bring my own alcohol?

Yes, however, the hirer must take responsibility for the provision of alcohol. Hirers are welcome to bring their own alcohol onsite or have the Gallery source this on your behalf. Unfortunately, we cannot offer fridge space for any alcoholic drink that the Gallery does not provide.

Do we offer discounts?

Discounts for weekly, monthly and multiday bookings are at the discretion of the Broadway Gallery. Please see the charitable discounts section for free access.

Do you offer an events manager?

The hire is for the venue only and we do not offer Event Planning or Event Management service.

Can I play music at my event?

You can play music at your event, although we are unable to provide technical support or a PA system. To respect our residential neighbours, we kindly ask for all music to cease at 11pm and reserve the right to manage noise levels. The Garden City Arts Club & Large Studio are equipment with wall-mounted speakers and an amplifier that can be connected to with a mini jack. 

How late can I hire the gallery until?

All guests must leave the Broadway Gallery by 12pm. Please talk with the team at the time of booking to discussion de-rigging your event and the hire period. If may be subject to additional charges if you fail to leave the Gallery at the time stipulated in the contract.

Can I hang my own art in the gallery?

The hire is for exclusive use of the Broadway Gallery as a venue and not an exhibition space. Please contact the Broadway Gallery directly to submit an exhibition proposal or to discuss hiring the Gallery.

Can I decorate the Gallery?

We welcome hirers to decorate and dress the Gallery and Studios, but cannot fix decorations to the walls and ceilings that interfere with the artworks on display during an exhibition. Please discuss your needs with the team as we may need to relocate artworks. 

Can we book an 18th or 21st birthday party?

We welcome all celebrations at the Broadway Gallery, please notify us at the time of booking if you wish to host an 18th or 21st Birthday Party. These celebrations will be subject to additional fees to cover the cost of additional staff and security.

Do I need to have Public Liability Insurance?

Hirers for public events are strongly advised to take out public liability insurance for your event.

Access to the exhibitions

We can offer a unique 30-minute curator-led tour for all our exhibitions as part of your hire. Please contact Broadway Gallery at broadwaygallery@letchworth.com to find out more.

Art Material Access

Our studio is well equipped for a children’s art classes and workshops, you can use our studio materials for an additional £75 + VAT.

Security

We may request that larger parties or events require additional security personnel on site. This will be discussed with you at the time of your enquiry.

About Broadway Gallery

We are owned and run by the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, this unique financial model means that the money from those who rent our houses, shops, offices and industrial units goes directly back into the town.  This includes our grants programme, which in 2022 allocated £196,000 to supporting community groups, clubs and societies as well as individuals who are striving to ‘Be the Best’ at music, sport, art and much more.

But that's not all, this income also supports the Foundation’s other venues and services including the Broadway Cinema & Theatre, Standalone Farm and the Garden City Greenway (13.6 mile route around the Garden City).

So by hiring our venue you'd actually be giving back to the local community too.
